About Angela
Angela Barbara is licensed to practice Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine in New Jersey and New York.
Angela’s first exposure to Asian culture began as child when her father’s US Navy career path took her family to Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii. A lifelong interest in the philosophy, social culture, and martial arts of East Asia followed, and turned into a focus on Chinese traditional healing methods first learned through her kung fu teacher in Brooklyn, NYC. She entered a medical massage program to learn more and shared classes with acupuncture students. She quickly realized a deeper exploration of Chinese medicine was her path, and she earned her Masters Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science in New York City. She is board certified by the NCCAOM for Acupuncture, Traditional and Biomedicine, as well as Chinese Herbal Medicine.
Before beginning her career in private practice, Angela sharpened her clinical skills as an acupuncturist when she joined a community-style acupuncture team in the Financial District of New York City for two years. As a top-rated practitioner with a high patient volume, she logged thousands of treatments and had a unique opportunity to treat a very diverse population with a wide range of health concerns.
She enjoys working closely with each patient and specializes in focused, compassionate care. She customizes each treatment plan to the unique needs of individuals and may combine modalities like acupuncture, motor and trigger point needling, manual therapy, tai chi and qigong, herbal medicine, meditation, and dietary guidance. Always working to refine her skills and knowledge, Angela has done extensive post-graduate study in Dr. Richard Tan and Master Tung Distal Acupuncture, Motor Point and Trigger Point Orthopedic Acupuncture, Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture and Skin Care, and Five Element Functional Medicine (a holistic approach to hormone-related, fertility, and women’s health issues).
Angela found her calling to Traditional Chinese Medicine through her study and practice of Traditional Chinese Martial Arts, and she uses her lessons in martial arts training in every aspect of her work and life. She has been training with Sifu Henry Moy since 2006, and is proud to be a Disciple (#52) and Senior Instructor of Ving Tsun Kung Fu and Taichichuan at Moy Yee San Jong in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.
Angela has committed to making the ideas of acupuncture and nurturing one's well-being more accessible and familiar to a wider audience. She worked for several years as a consultant for the oldest Chinese Herbal Pharmacy on the East Coast, Kamwo Meridian Herbs, where she did product research, social media outreach, and public relations events.
Angela professionally studied and trained as a visual artist and designer early in her adult life, and found a special and effortless connection to the philosophy behind this elegant medicine with theories and methods based on universal patterns of the natural world.
She also has had her own success story using Chinese medicine with the successful pregnancy and birth of her son. She used acupuncture and natural herbal medicine as well in her postpartum recovery. She has helped many women achieve their fertility goals in her practice, and often ends up treating the whole family!
A New Yorker for almost 20 years, Angela moved to northern New Jersey in 2016 to begin a second practice and try a different way of life. After falling in love with the natural beauty and friendly community here, she closed her Manhattan practice in 2018. She now practices full-time at her clinic in Flanders, New Jersey.
